The Quilted Princess

Swing Jacket
Royal Jacket

Last year I designed a swing jacket for girls and based on that design, I wrote a pattern for a boy's jacket.

I wanted to knit cardigans for a few little girls I know.    As I began to knit the swing jacket, ideas began to flow.   Still using the wide lapel and front band,  I found a quilted knit stitch pattern and added a band..  it works perfectly.  All that was needed was to add a bit of flare.  By increasing stitches below the quilt panel, I created a gathered look.

What do you think?

Now,  I know this may look complicated, but it really is not.
Knit top down and with basic stitches;
knit, purl, make one, knit into front and back (k f/b) and slip stitches and following my motto of seamlessly simple, this design is a winner.  An added feature is making the cuff and bottom edging in a contrasting color.

I'm starting another cardigan in the next few days, so I'll post step by step tips soon.

The pattern comes in sizes 6 months - 6 years and available on Ravelry and Love Knitting.

Gathering is done by increasing.  Knit into the front and back of the stitch.

A Little Swing Jacket

There are so many designs running around inside my head....
and I love to knit them, but to get it written down is a chore.   I've created formulas, read about writing patterns, taken classes on the subject,  written patterns and had them tech edited before,  but it just seems that I need to be in the right frame of mind for all of it to click.    It takes time: constructing it, engineering the process, figuring out the math and then editing the work.

I designed and knit this pattern years ago, but never finished writing it all out...

So last week I picked the draft up and started knitting and writing again.  Today the pattern is complete and was just posted on Ravelry (ElizSCKnits) and Love Knitting....

Pattern on Ravelry  Elizscknits

This is knit top down and in the round.  No seams and very little weaving in of yarn tails.

Knitting the body and adding the swing
After knitting the body and seed stitch hem, it's time to knit the sleeves in the round using two circular needles.   Here I have transfered the sleeve stitches from the holder to a circular a needle and picked up three (3) stitches at the underarm.    The Sleeve will be knit in the round.

Simply Soft Baby Hat

It's strange but I learned how to crochet by looking at the pictures of doilies in the pattern books.  Crochet for me is such a visual and hands on experience.   My design--toddler cap. Sept. 2015

I really should write things down.

Real Men Wear Pink Donation

So hard to believe this is something I knit 6 months ago.   Knit for a wonderful cause.

Envolve Winery's function "Real Men Wear Pink".
A fundraiser for women in the Sonoma
community who need assistance in getting Mammograms.

This is a pattern I created.  It's a moebius, 2 X 2 rib, knit in Wool-ease Thick and Quick. The body is knit in a charcoal shade and on the last two rows I added a thinner light grey yarn.   Next to last row was a mix of charcoal and lt. grey.  Last row and bind off is done in a double strand of the thinner grey yarn.

Pattern is available on Ravelry.

Craving a Creamsicle

My most recent project -- A top down, square neck pullover.   Using Creme de la Creme (coats and clark)  Double strand and size 11 needle.  Other then a few too many knots in one skein and some stains on another, I am pleased with the yarn.   The only real problem is I'm craving a Creamsicle!!!

Sonoma Hoodie

Sonoma Hoodie-  My new pattern It is so easy to do.  Knit from the top down and in the round for the sleeve.  I used a crochet hook to weave in the ends and absolutely no sewing.  Then I found all these great sports buttons in my stash.
